Treasure in the Desk--Poetry

Posted on Feb 8, 2007
Going through the desks now. We used to call this Spring Cleaning. Now we call it Moving. No one seems to be in one place long enough to go through drawers in spring.  Lucky me, I have an antique mission style desk with only one thin drawer. My husband has seven drawers to go through!

I found a poem I'd saved and one I'd written amongst many other treasures. I'll share the one I found and saved.

The Winds of Fate

One ship sails East and another sails West.
With the selfsame winds that blow.
Tis the set of the sails and not the gales
That determine the way they go.

Like the winds of the sea are the waves of fate,
As we voyage along through life.
Tis the set of the soul that decides the goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

From: 'Tis the Set of the Sail by
Ella Wheeler Wilcox, 1916
