Alive Again & Little Ice Age

Posted on May 1, 2008
Was horribly, miserably, deathly ill. Better now. Then house stuff, Truchas Fine Art stuff, and houseguests. Delightful houseguests.

Spring is taking it’s turn to winter again, 18 degrees tonight! Crap! And we’ve already planted the roses! We’re supposed to have a week’s worth of cold, cold weather and snow again Sunday through Tuesday. Spring here is a fickle mistress.

Willie is totally housebroken!! He asks to go out, and if we think he’s fooling us (for play instead) he insists! The papers in front of the door have not been soiled for 4 days—not even at night! Yay! In between wanting to let him loose, take him back, toss him off the canyon’s edge, and just plain strangle him---I’m pretty sure when he grows up he’s going to be a great dog. He IS a MASSIVE challenge, but he’s got all the goods to be a really great dog. If we can only get him to mind.

We took today off and went to play with our guests—how fun! Welcome company and good adventures. We went up to Taos, the Rio Grande Gorge (with winds so high we scurried off the bridge as they were literally lifting us up!) Then on up to Arroyo Seco and the Mercantile General Store. I love that store.

I inquired as to books by Frank Waters—a friend of ours introduced me to his writings, Waters was the first white person ever to live in Arroyo Seco back in the late ‘30s, early ‘40s. They had none on hand, though they usually do. I told of my introduction to Water’s writing and the woman said, “You know, his wife lives up on the mountain there, still.” (Frank passed away in 1995.)

Our guests will be here another day at least, hopefully two. There is a new gallery in town and we’ll all attend their opening reception tomorrow night...we’ll take our friends to tea at the Tea House and to a couple few galleries to meet our other friends....then the White Man (those of you who know, now DO know to whom I’m referring) will help Leonardo with wiring up our new electrical box. Yay!

All good. And so good to be back amongst the living ;-)

I think she likes me, I think she likes me, I think she's going to keep me. If I can give up chewing the footwear, shoe-ly she'll keep me! Shoe-ly she will!
